I just noticed that the current issue of the IIBA Newsletter (June 2008) also has an article about Professional Certification (www.theiiba.org). This seems to be a hot topic!! Barb

I see the Business Analyst career development process encompassing two elements:
1) Business Analyst certification (as you mentioned... common communication, common documentation, common language, common process, etc.) and
2) Technological area of focus (saas, decision engines, web pages, etc.) Basically, the specific type of technology that the BA generally lives in.
The later is harder to certify against, but there is a level of technical knowledge that Business Analysts should strive for as he/she look to focus their careers in a specific industry.
